Caring for Wooden Facades: To Oil or Not to Oil?Thermally treated facades and wall coverings do not necessarily require surface treatment. If you want to preserve or change the color of thermally treated wood, we recommend treating the boards with UV-resistant oil before installation and repeating the process every 3 years. The oil should only be applied to clean, flat, dust-free surfaces. Before applying oil to the entire cladding, test it on a small piece of wood by applying a small amount of oil. Please follow the instructions provided by the oil manufacturer. |

Why Choose Kodiak Thermo-Fir?
Choose Kodiak Thermo-Fir if you prefer a rustic appearance and require superior durability. |
Boards wider than conventional boards ensure quick installation with fewer seams, creating a stylish and modern atmosphere. |
The brushed surface highlights the natural wood grain. |
Thermal treatment elevates fir wood to the highest durability class (CLASS 1), ensuring it adorns your facade for decades. |
The wood's moisture absorption and rate are reduced through thermal treatment, resulting in fewer moisture-induced deformations. Kodiak boards are so stable that we recommend using PC clips for installation. |
Thermal treatment imparts a beautiful golden-brown hue to fir wood. |

Fir Wood Is Low in Resin ContentFir (Picea abies or Nordic spruce) is a widely distributed coniferous tree in Europe, belonging to the pine family of the genus Picea. Without any treatment, fir has nearly white wood. It is lightweight and soft with moderate mechanical properties. Fir wood splits more easily than pine but is lower in resin content. Fir wood is suitable for thermal enhancement, making it significantly more durable, stable, and giving it a beautiful golden-brown color during this process. |
Wood Color Changes Over TimeThermal treatment imparts a beautiful golden-brown tone to fir wood. A brushed surface further accentuates the wood's pattern and depth. Like any other wood, the surface of thermally modified pine gradually turns a natural silver-gray color over time. This process begins immediately after installing the products and can take several months to several years, depending on the amount of UV light exposure. The boards' durability is not affected by this change. |

Three Recommendations for Installing Kodiak Thermo-Fir Facade Profiles
For the substructure, we recommend using support beams made of thermally modified fir of durability class 1. This ensures the substructure lasts as long as the cladding. |
By choosing facade profiles with matching tongue-and-groove ends, you can install boards of varying lengths with minimal time, material, and labor. Two boards do not necessarily need to align directly over a support beam. |
